An October 23 conditions update warns of difficult water crossings on Medano Pass Primitive Road at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado.

The National Park Service reported swift water reaching approximately three feet at crossings 3, 4 and 5, along with wet, slippery sections elsewhere on the route. The road requires a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle.

An open-road listing does not establish that a crossing is safe for a particular vehicle. Drivers should review the latest official conditions, assess hazards carefully and remember that cellular service is unavailable along the route.
