GRAND CANYON, Arizona — The National Park Service has opened public comment on proposed measures to reduce the visual impact of a replacement water tank at Hermits Rest.
Comments will be accepted until midnight November 6, according to the park’s October 21 announcement. The draft agreement was developed with the Arizona State Historic Preservation Officer.
The tank was installed in 2022. Officials say safety requirements led to the addition of a ladder, platform and cap, making modern equipment more visible within the historic landmark.
The proposal addresses those visual effects while preserving the site’s character. It is separate from current water infrastructure recovery efforts. Individuals and groups can review the draft and submit comments through the National Park Service’s Planning, Environment and Public Comment website.
