LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A 43,000-square-foot UNLV innovation facility is giving researchers and businesses space to test technology for hospitality, gaming and entertainment.

Black Fire Innovation includes mock hotel rooms, a casino environment and an esports studio. UNLV’s October 21 report describes the facility as a place for proof-of-concept testing that would be difficult to conduct on an operating casino floor.

The lab opened in January 2020 within the Harry Reid Research and Technology Park. The university’s Office of Economic Development manages the facility and works with industry collaborators.

Projects explore possible future services, including automated beverage ordering and delivery. Those examples are experimental scenarios, rather than evidence that the same systems are already operating throughout Las Vegas casinos.
