AUSTIN, Texas — UT Austin’s Regional Security Operations Center has opened a new campus office, bringing student analysts and professional staff together to help protect public institutions from cyber threats.

The October 6 university report describes the center’s new home in the Perry-Castañeda Library. Its mission includes free cybersecurity services for local government and educational organizations through a state-supported network.

Students gain experience in monitoring, incident response, policy support and outreach. The university says analysts complete substantial training before serving clients.

The opening expands a program that began operating in 2024. It is a workforce-development and public-service initiative, rather than a guarantee that participating institutions cannot suffer a cyberattack.
