Authorities and organizations discussed challenges in implementing measures against abuse.
Mexicali, BC.— State authorities, specialists, students and civil-society organizations participated in a forum on animal abuse and cruelty held at UABC’s Law Faculty, the Baja California government reported on October 24.
Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda highlighted animal-protection measures and the operation of Santuario Animal Mily to receive rescued animals or those in vulnerable conditions.
Environment and Sustainable Development Secretary Elvia Martínez Santos said approximately 1,000 abuse-related reports had been handled and mentioned the creation of a specialized department to coordinate institutional responses.
The report total is the balance announced by the official, not a number of court judgments. The gathering addressed the application of existing provisions and responsible adoption; the statement does not announce a new reform approved that day.
