Kevin C. Cathcart, 57, appeared in federal court on October 19 on a complaint alleging possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. He was detained, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for October 29.

Prosecutors said Cathcart works as a baseball umpire and volunteers in youth hockey, but clarified that at the time of the statement they knew of no misconduct complaints connected with those roles. The allegations must be proved, and he retains the presumption of innocence. Details identifying minors are withheld.
