The markers seek to organize viewing and swimming activities in the bay.
La Paz, BCS.— Tourism providers received 112 flags identifying boats authorized for whale shark viewing and swimming in the refuge area of La Paz Bay, the state government reported October 20.
Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío witnessed the presentation, with representatives from the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas and the Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat participating.
According to the statement, the markers form part of activity-management measures and coordination with environmental authorities. The governor said permits would be directed to local providers.
The number of flags is not a count of sharks or visitors. Those booking tours should refer to providers’ current authorizations and applicable rules; the announcement does not replace those requirements.
