Intensive care physicians at IMSS’s UMAE Specialty Hospital No. 71 in Torreón won the 2026 COMMEC Research Award, the institute announced through its press office.
The study examines the relationship between the time a critically ill patient spends fasting while awaiting a tracheotomy and the protein intake they miss. IMSS highlighted a deficit of four grams for each additional hour without nutrition.
The finding concerns a specific hospital setting and the organization of care for critically ill patients. The award highlights research conducted in Coahuila to identify opportunities for improving clinical processes.
