The Calle por Cancha tournament held matches at Carlos R. González park in southern Saltillo as part of a program promoting prevention and positive interaction among young people, El Heraldo de Saltillo reported.
Security Commissioner Miguel Ángel Garza Félix said that 40 youth groups from different areas are taking part. The initiative aims to reduce tensions, prevent fights and improve trust in the authorities.
The October 24 report says activities had already taken place in the western, eastern and southern areas, with a central-area stage to follow before the final. Prevention through sport is the program’s stated aim; the report does not present an assessment of its results in reducing violence.
