The Department of Justice announced charges against 15 people, including six medical professionals, over schemes that allegedly generated approximately $2 billion in fraudulent claims to public programs and private insurers.
The investigation covers fictitious addiction treatments, allegedly unnecessary arterial procedures, and hospice services for patients who were not terminally ill. Eight people were arrested on October 22. The figures reflect prosecutors’ allegations; the defendants retain the presumption of innocence.
