Mediazona updates its verified register of Russian military deaths in Ukraine

Mediazona updated its register of Russian military personnel killed during the war in Ukraine on October 23. It compiles the register with BBC News Russian and volunteers.

The project verifies identities using official announcements, relatives’ posts, local information and other public documents. Its organizers warn that the list does not represent the total number of deaths, since many are not publicly reported.

The register distinguishes individually identified cases from statistical estimates based on inheritance records. These are different measurements and should not be confused when reporting on the human cost of the war.
