Information from the Baja California Sur State Government, distributed in its October 25, 2026 bulletin.
Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío led the closing ceremony of celebrations marking the 329th anniversary of Loreto’s founding. The event brought together families and visitors in the municipality, considered the historical capital of the Californias.
At the event in Plaza Salvatierra, the governor highlighted the importance of passing Baja California Sur’s roots and cultural heritage on to younger generations.
He said Loreto holds a fundamental place in Baja California Sur’s history because of the region’s natural wealth and the legacy of the Jesuit missions. “Loreto is poetry, life, tradition and an important cultural reference,” he said.
As part of the closing ceremony, Castro Cosío witnessed a commemorative exchange related to Loreto’s sister-city relationships with Hermosa Beach, marking 59 years of shared history, and Ventura, marking 19 years. Both cities are in California, United States.
Paintings representing regional rock art were also presented, reflecting the area’s ancestral heritage.
