RENO, Nevada — The Orvis School of Nursing has received two grants totaling nearly $1.6 million to support advanced practice nursing education and strengthen clinical training in rural Nevada.
The university’s October 14 announcement says the awards address both student support and the rural clinical settings where future providers learn.
One component, a $638,000 rural health fellowship, is intended to provide academic and living stipends for at least six students. It supports additional preparation across family practice and psychiatric-mental health specialties.
Fellows will commit to five years of rural practice after completing their education, according to the announcement. The funding aims to improve the workforce pipeline; it is not a report that new clinicians have already been placed in every participating community.
