Carmen firefighters warn of candle and gas-leak risks during Day of the Dead celebrations

Ciudad del Carmen’s Volunteer Fire Department called for stronger fire prevention during celebrations honoring the dead, particularly when using candles and LP gas to prepare traditional foods.

Its director, Ricardo del Jesús Graniel Claro, told Tribuna Campeche that this period brings calls involving flames near combustible materials and deteriorated or poorly maintained gas cylinders.

The recommendations include supervising candles, keeping them away from paper and checking cylinders, connections and hoses. The director announced a social media information campaign to reduce household accidents. The warning is preventive and does not report an ongoing fire.
